About the Artist

Artist Statement & Biography
Art invites, welcomes, and gives permission to the viewer and creator to dream, discover, and explore familiar and unfamiliar places.
I paint and create what I like and hope that others find something in common with my images and art, whether it is an inspirational message, an intriguing story, a place they would like to visit, or something pleasing to the eye. While life often propels us forward, a piece of artwork, or a single "happy rock" gives us the ability to stand still for several moments in time and retreat to a favorite place.
Finding fulfillment in holding artistic tools in my hands, I find my purpose to create something enjoyable for others and myself. While not following a strict style or single media, I enjoy the variety each one offers. Working as a studio artist and sharing my abilities, my passion is to encourage others, whether it is for them to conquer their own fear, make their own dreams come true, or simply lift their spirits.
Biography
Interested in art since early childhood, Door County artist, Bethany A. Kirwen, has enjoyed familiarizing herself with a wide variety of two and three-dimensional media over her lifetime. Although her wood and metal sculptures and ceramics defined her work while receiving her BFA from Central Michigan University, she found adventure in her years following as a professional puppeteer performing with her husband, Scott Kirwen, in their Kirwen’s Kids Puppet troupe, designing and creating life-sized hand/rod people puppets that were sold throughout the country.
Raising a family of two sons, she also operated her own painting business, Paint A New Image for twelve years, adding faux and decorative finishes, and custom murals to homes and businesses. After painting many years, primarily with acrylics and mixed media, she has been living her dream the past fifteen years of sharing her art with a larger audience, working as a studio artist, and adding diversity to her portfolio with acrylics, soft and oil pastels, mixed media, oils, and most recently, encaustic.
Bethany’s natural enthusiasm for life and encouraging others is evident in her philosophy, message, and artwork. Blessed to be given the gift of sharing her vision through her paintbrush, she is grateful for the opportunities to express the beauty and simplicity of nature though color, texture, and design.
Bethany is very appreciative of everyone who has generously supported and encouraged her. She can be reached at [email protected], or through her website at www.bethanykirwen.com.
